Many entries again, and this time I also went into the field and picked one that I thought worthy of your time.
- Travis presents Vegetarianism posted at Personal Web Guide.
My personal favourite; Travis describes why and how he went vegetarian. There are some great bits here, including:
If you’re the type of person who places more value on what others think of you than what you yourself think, then you may want to re-evaluate your decision to become a vegetarian.
Any vegetarian who has ever encountered a militant meat-eater can vouch for the truth of that statement. Travis also claims that “One acre of prime land can produce…
30,000 pounds of apples
40,000 pounds of potatoes
50,000 pounds of tomatoes
250 pounds of beef
He doesn’t back this up with a citation, unfortunately.
- This did lead me to the second find: It’s Not Rocket Science: Land Productivity, Food Rights, by DeAnander on Feral Scholar.
This article may not have the most compelling title, but the author effectively dissects the idea that the Green Revolution saved the world or is even necessary or helpful going forward. Here is just one example culled from the experience of the Soviet collapse:
By 2005, 53% (by value) of the country’s total agricultural output was coming from household plots (which in 2006 occupied only 2.9% of agricultural land), while the remaining 47%…came from the agricultural enterprises…and individual farmers, requiring 97.1% of agricultural lands (Rosstat 2007b).
- The final “Best of” entry is from Jourdan, who presents I need your help for Green Justice! posted at Green Justice.
Jourdan has created his blog “to hold people accountable and give info on how to change. Prepare for GREEN JUSTICE!” He’s tired of smokers who use the world as their ashtray, litterers, and “green abusers.”
